How the check works
Pactaro reads your file, detects the e-invoice format, and runs it through the same EN 16931 validation engine we use in the paid product. We report missing or malformed mandatory fields — supplier and buyer identification, VAT breakdown, invoice totals, dates and references — and tell you how to correct each one. The check is a pre-flight: it catches the errors that get an invoice rejected before you send it.
Frequently asked questions
What does this e-invoice validator check?
It detects the format of your file (ZUGFeRD, Factur-X, XRechnung in CII or UBL, Peppol BIS, plain UBL or CII) and validates it against the EN 16931 European e-invoicing semantic standard plus the relevant national rules. You get a pass/fail result and, for each problem, the exact field at fault and how to fix it.
Is it really free, and do you store my invoice?
Checking is free and requires no account. Your file is validated entirely in memory and is never written to a database, object storage, or a log — it is discarded the moment the result is returned. No tracking pixels, no cookies. The paid Pactaro product is the automatic conversion + delivery + 10-year archive for your QuickBooks or Xero invoices.
Which formats and file types are supported?
You can upload a PDF (ZUGFeRD / Factur-X with embedded XML) or an XML file (XRechnung, Peppol BIS, UBL, CII), up to 2 MB, or paste the XML directly. The format is auto-detected — you don't pick it. Italian FatturaPA detection works, but full SdI validation is still in development.
Does a passing result mean my invoice is legally accepted?
A pass means your invoice meets the EN 16931 structure and the validation rules we check. National platforms (e.g. the German receiver, the French PPF/PDP, the Italian SdI, the Peppol network) can apply additional acceptance checks at submission time. This tool is a strong pre-flight check, not a legal guarantee — for binding advice consult your accountant.
